The Lychee Giant Stink Bug is a large, shield-shaped insect commonly found in the lowlands and mid-hills of Nepal, especially around lychee and longan trees.

Recognized by its reddish-brown body and distinctive orange nymphs, this species emits a strong odor when disturbed, serving as its natural defense against predators. Both nymphs and adults feed on plant sap, often piercing young shoots and fruits, which can cause deformities or crop loss in orchards.

Despite being an agricultural pest, Tessaratoma papillosa is a significant component of Nepal’s insect diversity, highlighting the intricate balance between farming landscapes and native ecosystems.
