Found below 300m, Darters are seen from the east to the west of Nepal.

Darters have a long snake-like neck, a sharp-pointed beak, fan-shaped tail, and have a brown head, brown neck along with streaked silver grey on back and wings. These birds are seen in lakes, pools, and slow-flowing rivers basking in the sun like cormorants spreading its wings to dry.

Specialized in capturing fish underwater, they can often be seen swimming low in the water with only the head and neck uncovered.
