The Green Sandpiper is a medium-sized wader commonly found around freshwater wetlands, forest streams, ponds, and flooded fields. In Nepal, it is usually recorded at elevations between 75 and 1,380 meters, particularly during migration and winter.

This species measures about 21–24 cm in length and has a compact body, long greenish legs, and a straight, dark bill. The upperparts are dark greenish-brown with small white spots, while the underparts are bright white, creating a strong contrast with the darker back. The breast and neck are greyish-brown with fine streaking, gradually blending into the white belly. In flight, the white rump and tail base stand out against the dark wings, which is a key identification feature.

Male and female Green Sandpipers appear very similar in plumage, though the female is generally slightly larger than the male. They are often seen alone along muddy edges of water bodies, where they forage for aquatic insects, larvae, and other small invertebrates.
