Jungle Brown is commonly found at elevations of 122 to 1828 m and is distinguished by its plain upperside and seasonal variation in eyespot visibility.

The butterfly is dark brown on the upperside with no eyespots, featuring a thin pale border and a fine dark line along the wing edges. Both males and females share this uniform appearance. The underside has five eyespots: two on each forewing and hindwing, with an additional ocellus near the tornal area. The forewing’s anterior eyespot is slightly smaller, and one of the hindwing’s apical eyespots is reduced in size.
