Mallards are generally found in elevations ranging from 75 meters above sea level to 3050 meters. They are one of the many duck species that migrate and are winter visitors. The male has a green head, a white band in the neck that separates the chestnut breast, and a gray body. The bill is yellow. The female has a dark eye stripe, and the body is mottled from brown to dark brown.

They are generally spotted in bodies of water like lakes, rivers, ponds, and wetlands, that contain aquatic vegetation.
