Common Name: Ant-mimic Jumping Spider
Scientific Name: Salticidae (Family) Size: 10mm
Location: Dam side, Pokhara, Nepal
Spotting mimic spiders is very hard and I had my first look at a mimic spider in a garden of a hotel in Pokhara. Fairly small and certainly got the mimicry dialed it certainly had its purposed stated out. The reason behind the mimicry is both as a defense against the ants and also to get to the larva of the ants.
Please feel free to comment below if the above species has been misidentified.

I can’t believe you even noticed this and realized it was a spider!!! do they move like ants too?

I think it’s easier to notice the ant mimic spider beacuse of their movements as they keep a bit of a distance from the ants.

Thank you so much, Kiran for the update. Much appreciated. Is there any record of how many species of mimic spiders there are in Nepal?
