The Bar-throated Minla, also known as the Chestnut-tailed Minla, is generally observed in small groups in Nepal’s mid- to high-altitude forests. During the breeding season, it inhabits elevations between 2,440 and 3,750 meters, descending to 1,400 to 2,745 meters in the winter months.

This species is easily recognized by its colorful plumage: a bright chestnut tail, yellowish underparts, and a distinctive black-streaked throat. Its head features shades of orange and grey, and it sports a black mask around the eyes, giving it a striking appearance.

An active forager, its diet varies seasonally—feeding on beetles and caterpillars during the summer, and incorporating berries, seeds, and nectar in the winter months.
