The Spangle Butterfly is a swallowtail species found in Nepal. Due to its similar appearance, it is often mistaken for the Great Mormon. This butterfly inhabits regions at elevations ranging from approximately 792 to 2,012 meters.

The upperside of the Spangle Butterfly showcases a velvety indigo-black hue, with the forewings appearing slightly duller compared to the hindwings. On the underside, the forewings are a muted black adorned with broad, distinct grey adnervular streaks. The hindwings’ underside mirrors the dark coloration of the upper surface, featuring subtle patterns that aid in camouflage.​

This butterfly’s antennae are black, while its head, thorax, and abdomen exhibit a dark brownish-black coloration. Often observed fluttering along shaded forest paths and near water sources, the Spangle Butterfly feeds on nectar from various flowering plants, contributing to the pollination process within its ecosystem.
