Yellow-bellied Fantail is found around broadleaved forests and shrubberies above tree line at an elevation ranging from 1200 to 1800m during winters. During breeding season it can be found in elevation ranging from 2440 to 4000m.

Small but very active these birds have bright yellow underparts with pale black broad tail that are white tipped. The eyes have a black stripe.
