The Chestnut‑crowned Laughingthrush is a common and widespread bird of the Himalayan mid‑elevation forests, found in Nepal between 1,800 and 3,200 meters during the warmer months and descending to 900–2,750 meters in winter. It thrives in dense mixed woodlands, rhododendron thickets, and secondary growth.
This bird is unmistakable thanks to its chestnut crown and distinctive facial pattern featuring bold black neck spots. Its wings and tail display captivating golden‑olive panels, contrasting with an otherwise warm brown body. These colorful highlights are especially noticeable when the bird flicks its tail in alarm or during brief flights.
