The Eurasian Jay is a member of the crow family found in Nepal’s mid-montane forests, inhabiting elevations ranging from 1,800 to 2,440 meters.

This bird is characterized by its light rufous-brown to pinkish-brown body plumage, an unstreaked rufous crown, and a prominent black moustache stripe bordering its throat. The wings feature a bright blue patch with fine black barring, and the tail is predominantly black. Notably, unlike some other Eurasian Jay subspecies, bispecularis lacks a white wing patch.

Eurasian Jays are known for their intelligence and adaptability. They are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of foods including insects, seeds, fruits, and occasionally small vertebrates. Their role in seed dispersal, particularly of acorns, is vital for forest regeneration.
