The Black-breasted Weaver is commonly found in the grasslands and wetlands of Nepal’s Terai region, at elevations ranging from 75 m to 245 m.

Males of the species sport a brilliant golden-yellow crown and an extensive yellow forehead, with varying amounts of black on the head and breast. Some have entirely black heads (except for the yellow crown) and breasts, while others display a white throat or face, separated from their pale underparts by a black band. Their upper parts are dark brown with black streaks, and their underparts are dirty white.

Black-breasted Weavers are social, feeding on seeds and insects. They are especially known for their intricate woven nests and striking appearance, particularly in males during the breeding season.
