The Himalayan Sergeant butterfly is a medium-sized butterfly is found widely in hill forests and open woodland, particularly in sunny clearings, forest edges, and along trails. It is generally recorded between about 610 m and 3,000 m elevation, making it a common species across many mid-hill landscapes.
This species has a wingspan of roughly 60–70 mm. The wings are dark brown to black with a series of distinct white bands and spots arranged across both the forewings and hindwings, giving it a bold, striped appearance. The forewings are somewhat triangular with slightly curved outer edges, while the hindwings are rounded. On the underside, the wings are usually warmer brown or reddish-brown with pale markings, helping the butterfly blend with forest surroundings when at rest. Males and females appear similar, although females may have slightly broader wings.
