The Maroon Oriole is a striking forest bird found in the mid-hills of Nepal. It is mainly recorded at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 2,440 meters above sea level, while during winter it may descend to around 1,200–1,800 meters.

It is easily recognized by its deep maroon to chestnut-red plumage, contrasting black head, wings, and tail, along with a stout pinkish bill. The bird has a slender body with a graceful posture typical of orioles, often moving quietly through the forest canopy in pairs or small groups. It inhabits broadleaf and mixed forests where it feeds on fruits, berries, insects, and caterpillars. Though often hidden among dense foliage, it frequently reveals its presence with rich whistling calls.
