Red-crested Pochard are found in elevations ranging from 75m above sea level to 3050m. These large diving ducks are winter visitors and passage migrants. Their preferred habitat is wetlands like rivers, shallow freshwaters, and large lakes.
The male Red-crested Pochard has a round rusty orange head with a distinctive red bill, pale white flanks, black breasts, and a tail. The female is mainly a pale brown, with a pale white cheek and a brown crown.
