The Spotted Redshank is a medium-sized, wading bird, with reddish-brown legs and a straight red bill with a brown tip. These migratory birds are found in elevations ranging from 75 to 250 m during winters and travel from northern Europe and Siberia to Europe, Africa, China, and Southeast Asia.

Adults are mostly black with some white spots on the wings, a white oval on the back visible in flight, and a striped tail during the breeding season. In winter, they have a grey back and paler underparts with a distinctive eye stripe.
